Overview
Promote, rather than inhibit, neuronal activity and maturity in your cultured primary or human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived neurons. Based on the formulation by Bardy and Gage (Bardy et al. PNAS, 2015), BrainPhys™ serum-free neuronal basal medium is optimized to yield a higher proportion of synaptically active neurons by mimicking the central nervous system (CNS) extracellular environment.
Use BrainPhys™ Neuronal Medium (Catalog # 05790) for long-term culture of hPSC- and CNS-derived neurons and to perform functional assays, such as microelectrode array-based recordings or live-fluorescent imaging, without shocking your cells by changing media.
To ensure cell health in long-term serum-free culture, BrainPhys™ must be combined with an appropriate supplement. For your convenience, various BrainPhys™ kits are available for primary or hPSC-derived neurons. BrainPhys™ Neuronal Medium and SM1 Kit (Catalog #05792) is recommended for culture of primary neurons. BrainPhys™ Primary Neuron Kit (Catalog #05794) is recommended for plating and culture of primary neurons. BrainPhys™ Neuronal Medium N2-A & SM1 Kit (Catalog #05793) and BrainPhys™ hPSC Neuron Kit (Catalog #05795) are recommended for the differentiation and maturation of hPSC-derived neurons, in combination with lineage-specific growth factors and/or small molecules (if necessary).
