MSL3, also known as Male-specific lethal 3 homolog, or Male-specific lethal-3 homolog 1, or Male-specific lethal-3 protein-like 1 (MSL3-like 1), and encoded by the gene MSL3/MSL3L1, is a component of the MSL(male-specific lethal ) histone acetyltransferase complex which is responsible for the majority of histone H4 acetylation at ′Lys-16′ which is implicated in the formation of higher-order chromatin structure. MSL3 may also be involved in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. Additionally, MSL3 may have a role in X inactivation as its gene is a target for X inactivation.
