Likewise, adiponectin overexpression is reported to alleviate metabolic dysfunction independent of weight loss in both genetic and diet-induced animal models of obesity. Aadiponectin deficiency is associated with various clinical cardiovascular disorders including myocardial infarction, peripheral artery disease, and endothelial dysfunction.
