TFIIA in a complex with TATA-box-binding protein (TBP) mediates transcriptional activity. After initiation, some components of the pre-initiation complex, including TFIIA, remain attached and re-initiate a subsequent round of transcription. Binding of TFIIA to TBP helps to stabilize TBP binding to the TATA element. TFIIA is a heterodimer of the large unprocessed subunit 1 and a small subunit gamma.
