The filamentous temperature-sensitive Z (FtsZ) protein is a promising target for the development of new antibacterial drug targets. FtsZ is a protein encoded by the ftsZ gene that assembles into a ring at the future site of bacterial cell division and is one of the most conserved proteins in prokaryotes. This live cell probe will aid development of new FtsZ inhibitors and enable screening for FtsZ inhibition in a broad range of bacterial species.
