T cell receptor gamma, variable 7 (UniProt: A0A0A6YYE8; also known as TCR Vg7) is encoded by the Trgv7 (also known as Tcrg-V7) gene (Gene ID: 21641) in murine species. The T-cell receptor (TCR) is a protein complex found on the surface of T cells that is responsible for recognizing fragments of antigen as peptides bound to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. The TCR is a heterodimer of a and b chain and over 95% of T cells express these two chains and only about 5% of T cells carry g and d chains, which are the first T lymphocytes of innate immunity to arise in ontogeny. The diversity of TCR arises from genetic recombination of the DNA-encoded segments in individual somatic T cells by somatic V(D)J recombination using RAG1 and RAG2 recombinases. This recombination process is reported to be unique to lymphocytes during the early stages of their development in primary lymphoid organs. The generation of the TCR g chain involves VJ recombination. There are seven Vg gene segments have been described in the TCRg chain loci of mice. TCR Vg7 is localized on the external side of plasma membrane. It is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-17), which is subsequently cleaved off to produce the mature form. In most inbred strains of mice, T cells expressing Vg7- or Vg1- encoded TCRs make up 90% of intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes. These cells are reported to be essential to limit parasite invasion and their dissemination from the intestinal mucosa. (Ref.: Li, C., et al. (2012). Cell.
